Learning Outcomes of Master of Social Work Program (Regular)

Master of Social Work is a post graduation course of 2 years duration in the field of social work. A career in professional social work is all about giving and helping others in need. A masters in Social Work will provide a candidate an in-depth knowledge about the work put into the development of humanity and social welfare spanning Governmental Organizations and Non Governmental Organizations across the nation.

Vision of the Institute is to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, towards creating a people-centered, ecologically sustainable and just society that promotes and protects dignity, equality, social justice and human rights for all.

Objectives of the Social Sciences Centre:

  1. To undertake research, training and consultancy in the field of Social Sciences.
  2. To impart need-based, innovative and professional training in social work leading to the professional degree of M.S.W. of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be) University.
  3. To form Social Action groups of young post-graduate students and to impart training of professional social work in the areas of family and child welfare, rural-urban community development, labour welfare, tribal development, health, education and environment.
  4. To establish interaction between social scientists, activists, policy makers and planners through seminars / workshops and conferences on the topics of current social importance.

Career Opportunities :

The candidates having M.S.W. Degree will be qualified for the posts of Labour Welfare and Personnel Officers, Welfare Officers in Industry, Social Welfare Officers, Tribal Development Officers, Project Officers in Govt. & Voluntary Organisations, Welfare & Probation Officers in Correctional Institutions and Dept. of Social Welfare.

Following are the career opportunities in the three Specialisations offered by the Institute :

Family and Child Development :

The field of Family and Child Welfare encompasses a broad spectrum of social work interventions. The teaching and practice in this specialisation includes gender equity as a significant area. This specialisation strengthens an ideological perspective of equality, equity and democratic participation for the empowerment of the marginalised. It equips students to develop a critical understanding of issues and intervention skills especially related to the family unit, women, children, the elderly and persons with disability.

Distinctiveness of Social Sciences Centre, Pune:

The Social Sciences Centre is one of the important constituent unit of the Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be ) University imparting a Two years Master of Social Work Program, Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling, Post Graduate Diploma in Corporate Social Responsibility and Ph.D. in Social Work.

As a social work institute working with individuals, groups and community. The vision of the Centre is to enhance the advancement of professionalism in social work and to bring about social transformation and development through education and social entrepreneurship. The mission is to facilitate the academic advancement and professional growth of the students in the area of Professional Social Work. The centre is creating socially relevant knowledge through social work degree and diploma programs and field action projects. The centre is having field action projects such as microenterprises for women (Dhaaga), Life Skill Education, Anemia Intervention, Malnutrition and empowerment of women through Self Help Groups.

With the support of Tata Power Community Development Trust, the Social Sciences Centre is providing vocational training to women from low socio economical background, widows, Dalits, backward classes. Till 2019-20 year, 100 women have been trained under the fashion design tailoring course. After completion of fashion designing course 100 women appeared and passed in examination conducted by Maharashtra State Vocational Training Centre, Kolhapur. Based on their capability for mini business of stitching and selling of different types of synthetic and cotton bags, pillow cover, purse, handbags, apron, Jute bag, uniform etc. This helped women to earn money other than their income from agriculture.

Every year, the centre conducts 40 to 50 cataract operations of needy elderly persons from rural areas of Pune district at Bharati Hospital, Pune.
